Gaishazon just turned six years old. He is started under saddle and will probably go English (Hunter maybe Pleasure).
He is by Gai Eminence one of the last stallions to be born on the Gainey Ranch before the 60+ year program dispersed in the late 1990's. Gai Eminence, born in March of 1996, had it all in Daniel J. Gainey's mind. "Best colt we've ever had...Looks like a world beater to everyone here." Everyone included Robin Gainey, longtime administrative assistant Diane Rees, longtime ranch assistant Armando Gomez and of course Dan Gainey. These four knew what they were looking at. After all they had been refining Arabian breeding for decades. What nobody planned on was the fate of this rising star. As a weanling Gai Eminence suffered an injury that would make him questionable in the show arena. He lived through the injury and survived quite remarkably. As life in the Arabian industry moved on and the lives of those on the Gainey Ranch moved on too Gai Eminence grew into a stunning Arabian stallion with no particular life path ahead of him. Gai Eminence was not a Breeder's Sweepstakes nominated stallion which meant his foals would not be eligible for a lifetime nomination into the Breeders Sweepstakes Program. So what you ask? Well foals that are nominated have an opportunity to win prize money as they advance into a show career. After all Gainey horses had decades of show careers under their belt and a "breeder sweepstakes nomination" meant something to future breeders. But those who were intimately close to Gai Eminence believed in his potency as a sire and didn't let future earnings stand in the way of using him as a breeding stallion. Under the guidance of my friend Diane Rees I was among a few who bred to Eminence. Not surprisingly Robin and Armando also bred mares to this now fading star.
Gaishahzon's dam is Paradas Radiance a mare that was conceived on the Gainey Ranch in 1993. Paradas Radiance is a Gai Radiant daughter out of my mare Poseja Parada. Both Radiance and Poseja are alive and well here in Northern California.
