Gai Monarch 1991-2007
It was in 1991 that I first met Gai Monarch. He was a carefree weanling nursing at the side of a surrogate mare. His biological mommy, Gaishea, was a busy mare winning Canadian and U.S. National Champion Mare. I also had the pleasure of visiting with Monarch's daddy, Gai Parada. Gai Parada had already made his name in the history books of Arabian Champions three times. By the time I met him he was happily retired. His son, Gai Monarch, on the other hand was just getting started. Monarch was a Ferzon grandson on the sire side and a Bey Shah grandson on the dam side. Even further back you find Gai Dream by Gai-Rouge out of a Ferzon granddaughter. Gai Monarch's pedigree is a wonderful example of the Gainey prototype. I was saddened to learn Gai Monarch died at the relatively young age of 16 years old in 2007. Gratefully I was able to witness his U.S. National win in 1994 as Reserve National Champion Futurity Colt. That year he won the same title in Canada and also won Cal Bred Champion Futurity Colt. While I never bred to Gai Monarch I hopefully have a Gai Radiant daughter in foal to Gai Monarch's son Gai Monarcher.
